Summary
William Afton procured many false marriages in his lifetime as a cover for his countless identities. He never actually cared for them. They only served as pawns, and thus were completely disposable. They were never content with him, either. A clear example of this was when they bore children.
Not in the case of Clara Schmidt.
Michael Schmidt (secretly Michael Afton) was the son of the Demon King, later followed by a set of twins. Before they were born his wife took in an abandoned child, who William graciously allowed to stay. One day, he would turn his family (perhaps even the stowaway if he was feeling benevolent) into demons. He would perfect them.
The Schmidts lived peacefully on their mountain. They were a simple family of charcoal merchants with an important family tradition. But peace doesn’t last forever, and the legacy of the Demon King loomed over them all.
