Summary
Verzaugust Lionel "Lion" de Vessels isn't a made man in the traditional sense, but he's deeply scarred by his crime family's world. His past is haunted by the trauma of his father's attempts to force him into committing unspeakable acts, including cannibalism—a twisted effort to break him, deeming him unfit to be the family's heir. Now, his singular, desperate hope is to find his missing mother, convinced she's still alive. Unbeknownst to him, his own family has orchestrated a cruel deception, feeding him lies about her disappearance. Worse still, a relentless family member is actively hunting him, determined to silence him permanently if his location is ever discovered.
With the help of Cleavant, his only true friend and and a former capo, Lion manages to escape the clutches of his deceitful kin. Now free, he encounters a new, unexpected "found family" that offers him genuine solace and belonging. As Lion attempts to forge a new life disguised as an ordinary person, he grapples with a monumental question: will he be forced to hide forever from his pursuer and his past, or will he finally unearth the truth about his mother and reunite with her?
